Emily's Wedding

When I first met Emily, I knew this girl was head over heels excited to get married. As she talked about her ideas and her fiancé, her face grew animated and she literally glowed!

As we worked together to bring to life her amazing ideas (she is super creative y’all), I got to know her more and came to think of her as a close friend. The planning process is always so much more fun when you feel like you are planning something for a friend. I knew from the very beginning that the task was going to be big, but that I would do everything in my power to give her the wedding day that she had always dreamed about. Two days of setting up in the Louisiana heat and lots of prayers for no rain and her day was gorgeous!

Emily’s wedding was at her aunt’s home in Lafayette, Louisiana. The backyard served as the ceremony and reception area. The yard itself is gorgeous, but add to it some unique touches, a few extra flowers and a beautiful bride and well, its downright breathtaking!

Emily’s guests were greeted with cups of sweet tea, Milo’s Sweet Tea that is ;-), before being seated in front of an amazing arbor built by the groom himself and adorned with flowers by Flowers by Rodney. The couple chose to write their own vows (how sweet!) and exchanged them in front of their closest friends and family members. The ceremony and reception were filled with so many little touches (check out her gallery here or Courtney Nicole Photography’s website here) that represented them perfectly. To say this was a little backyard wedding is quite the understatement!

The couple ended the night with a sparkler exit and a fancy red convertible which happened to be the same car that her parents left in on their wedding day.

Working with Emily was a true blessing and I am so thankful, not only for the chance to work with someone so kind, fun and genuine, but for the friendship that has evolved from the experience.

Emily, I pray that life brings you and Taylor the many blessings that you deserve and that you both have a marriage filled with joy, love and tons of laughter! 🙂 It was such a pleasure working with you!

Happy New Year

I have so many hopes and plans for this coming year that if I listed them all this post would be pages long. These are a few that have been on my mind for a while that I thought I’d share and hope they inspire you to think about what your plans for the coming year are.

  1. Surrounding myself with “feel good friends”. What I mean by this is that I want to surround myself with people who make me want to be a better person. I know this sounds like common sense, but I recently found myself in a relationship that didn’t make me “feel good”. I couldn’t understand what was missing until I realized that the people I love and admire most are those that make me want work harder and constantly work to be a better person. These people, that may not understand the impact that they have, are contagious with their love of life, their sense of self and their hard-working, goal oriented attitudes. They are consistently grateful and kind. Surrounding myself with these people comforts my heart, relaxes my mind and brings about so much happiness and joy, I’m reminded of how truly blessed I am.
  2. Being a constant support to those around me is very important to me. I love motivating and congratulating people. Being complimented and openly supported by someone is an amazing feeling. We were given a voice to “sing praise”, so let us sing praise to glory in our God and to glory in each other’s triumphs. I hope to praise at least one person every day and in that, may their spirits be lifted, if just a little.
  3. Carving out an hour a day for quiet time is not something that I ever seem able to do anymore. However, I know the importance of it and how refreshed I feel after. My goal is to put aside all things electronic and sit quietly reading, reflecting and giving thanks for the many blessings that God has given me.

I am so excited for the opportunity to plan amazing weddings for my amazing brides, to stand beside one of my close friends on her wedding day, to support 3 lovely ladies who have big birthdays this year, to make new friends and to strengthen my relationships with those already in my life.

Cheers to 2013 y’all! Let’s make it great!

— Oh and I promise to post more often! 🙂

So, as promised, I will be spotlighting some of my favorite vendors and people that I find inspiring. For my first spotlight, I chose an up and coming photographer whose photographs are incredibly awe inspiring (especially considering she’s just starting out). This little lady, a local photographer by the name of Courtney Stermer is both an amazing photographer and an incredibly inspiring young woman. To learn more about what makes her unique, see below:

How did you get started taking pictures?
I don’t really remember the moment that I decided to start taking pictures seriously. I just remember thinking I wanted a camera, really bad. I wanted to have some kind of creative outlet outside of school and work. The rest just happened and it’s all a blur, but a good blur.

What do you love most about being a photographer?Least?
What I love most about photography is having something I’m so in love with and I can control it- I control how much I learn, how much I shoot, and how serious I get with the business side of things.
What I don’t like so much is the sun straight overhead (shadows!) and ants- ants are relentless right now. Oh and also not having enough weekends in a month to schedule sessions!

What do you hope people get from your pictures?
My biggest hope when it comes to my photography is that people see themselves in a different light- their beauty and their personality from the other side. I’d like to get to the point where other people just think ‘Wow..’ I’m not there yet, but that’s my plan.

What are your 3 favorite things? (could be anything at all!)
Three favorite things: neutral animal prints, my family, and alexbeadon.com.

Who are you inspired by?
I had not read the next question! Ha! I’m inspired by a young photographer/business woman/entrepreneur, Alex Beadon. She does the sort of portraits I want to work towards and shares so much of her knowledge. Selfless and creative and so smart.

Do you have a philosophy that you live by or run your business by?
I have so many philosophies that I live and work by with this business. I am constantly reading inspiration and taking it to heart. One of these is “You will always be too much of something for someone. Too big. Too loud. Too Soft. Too Edgy. If you round out your edges, you lose your edge. Apologize for mistakes, apologize for unintentionally hurting someone–profusely. But don’t apologize for being who you are.” – Danielle LaPorte

I can’t wait for the opportunity to work with someone who has such a passion for what she does!
